The Eagle Ray

Also known as the Spotted Eagle Ray, it is a large open-water predator, native to Florida. Their tails are longer than other rays and have 2-6 poisonous spines. It can launch 7 ft. out of the water. A mature eagle ray can be 15 ft. long, have a wing span of 10 ft and weight up to 500 lb.

UIC is the only school in the U.S. with this mascot.

The Eagle Ray is under the list of near threatened under the International Union for Conservation Nature (UCNR) Red List.
